The following ions do not cause interference at concentrations up to 1,000 mg/L: aluminium, ferric iron, magnesium, calcium, barium, strontium, lithium, sodium, potassium, ammonium, cadmium(II), manganese(II), lead(II), mercury(I), mercury(II), tin(II), copper, nickel, silver(I), uranium(IV), zirconium(IV), arsenite, bromide, carbonate, perchlorate, cyanide, iodate, nitrate, nitrite, sulfate, sulfite, pyrophosphate, tetraborate, selenate, benzoate, citrate, oxalate, lactate, tartrate, formate, and salicylate.
Large quantities of color and turbidity interfere. Fats, oil, proteins, surfactants and tar interfere.
